To be responsible for the personal care and domestic responsibility of a 37 year old man who is an electric wheelchair user. Assist with, getting out of bed in the morning, going to bed in the evening, toileting, all aspects of washing/showering/bathing, dressing, grooming, support in and outside the home. Manual handling; to use bed, shower chair, electric wheelchair and items as requested, e.g. shopping, recycling refuse, etc. in the home or when accompanying outside. Food preparation (3 meals daily) and washing/drying up. Shopping (with or without accompaniment). Laundering, drying and folding away bed sheets and clothes. Equipment maintenance, e.g. recharging the electric wheelchair and mobile phone. Assist in using TV, Wi-Fi and video games. Making the bed. Driving the Motability vehicle. Assist with wheelchair access when socialising, visiting family, friends, including getting in and out of the car. Help with general correspondence and paperwork. General house cleaning and hoovering.
Someone who lives close to South Manchester, in general good health, reliable, trustworthy, conscientious, self-motivated and committed. Willing and able to learn the job well. Flexible in hours of work. Minimum age 21 years old with a clean driving license.
The client requires care 7 days a week and you will be part of a team of PAs working core hours of up to 36 hours per week, including a shared weekend rota of 1 in 4. You will receive a number of days off per week in line with Working Time Regulations. Payment will be made every four weeks. The rate of pay for hours worked between 9am -11pm is £9.43 per hour. The various duties will be shared by the team whose times/days of work will be individually defined and agreed. The PA will be notified of their hours of work, at least one week in advance. If circumstances cause any notification plan to change, the PA will be informed appropriately. The hours that are worked must be recorded and confirmed on a time-sheet, so that the correct payment can be made.
The job will be given on an initial probation period of thirteen weeks, to ensure that both parties are happy with the arrangements, and to resolve any problems encountered along the way. If termination of the employment is immediately desired by either party, during the probation period, then advance notice must be given by either party, as soon as possible, within the thirteen week probation period. If both parties are satisfied with the employment arrangements, after the initial thirteen weeks, then the job will continue on a contractual basis.
Appointment to the post will be subject to satisfactory references being received and an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check being undertaken.
