Family Intervention Worker 09/2006 to Current
    Cheshire West and Chester Council
    • I am employed as a Family Intervention Worker. My role is to provide an intensive, high quality family support and advocacy service to families with multiple and complex issues. To enable transformational change in behaviours amongst families and communities across Cheshire West and Chester. The Family Intervention Worker plays a lead role in advocating for families, ensuring they are signposted to effective support and empowering them to become more independent members of their community.
    Learning Mentor 09/2005 to 09/2006
    St Nicholas Catholic High School
I was employed at St Nicholas Catholic High School as a learning mentor. My role was to establish a one-to-one mentoring service to support the most disaffected and challenging students and to liaise with and support their families. It became apparent students who were experiencing difficulties with their peers, issues at home or with their own feelings found the opportunity to talk and be listened to invaluable.
I facilitated a peer support group at lunch time for the lower school students who were isolated and struggling to manage relationships in the playground. The outcome from the group was positive, it provided a safe , non-threatening environment and relationships were built by the various students that attended which improved their self-esteem and interaction with their peers .
    Support Worker 09/2003 to 09/2005
    People First Housing Association
    • I was employed at People First Housing Association, which provided me with experience of empowering young people with appropriate support plans which set out achievable goals to give clients a sense of achievement and self-worth thus enabling a move to independent living. I have experience of assessment of needs and of referral to outside agencies when required. I have supported clients in accessing the relevant training and vocational opportunities, promoted their good health and independent living skills, helped young people to claim the relevant benefits. I was key worker for a young person who was a resident in one of the supported houses that are based in the community. My role involved ensuring the smooth running of the house, chairing house meetings for the residents and providing mediation in the event of any arising difficulties the residents could not resolve amongst themselves.
Residential Care Worker 09/1993 to 09/2003
    Keys Attachment Centre
    • I worked as a residential care worker at Keys Attachment Centre working with young people suffering from Attachment Disorder. During this time, I gained the NVQ level 3 in Caring for children and Young People. My role was to support young people on a semi-independent package in preparation for leaving care and moving on to independent living.. I was a key worker with responsibility for attending reviews, multi-agency meetings, writing reports for review, monthly synopsis and attendance at the weekly therapy session with the young person.
