I spent three years working for a performing arts respite service based in Leicester, primarily working with children, but a some time spent working with young adults as well. I worked 1:1 and 2:1 with students, engaging them in music, dance, drama, and art. This took place in specialist settings, as well as in the community – taking our service users out into the community for walks. I also worked in a SNIPS provision in Sheffield, working with 8-18 year olds with a variety of needs (primarily ASD.) This group runs as a social group for kids, playing board games and working on creative projects.
I have just left a full time position as a TA in an SEND school in Sheffield, working with year 8s with ASD and other associated needs. The class I worked in displayed lots of challenging behaviours, most commonly associated with demand avoidance and anger management difficulties.
