all paperwork was updated and in place. There was an effective induction process where carers would
complete training and read policies and procedures , they would then go on to shadowing. I completed
staff supervisions and appraisals and ensured all staff where trained and if needed further guidance they
where booked into training to improve their knowledge and awareness .Once they completed training
they where able to support the service users in a person-centred way. My role was to ensure that the
service was well led and all staff where happy and confident within their job role and also ensured that
all service users where happy and all their needs where being met.
Senior support worker
Stockdales-Sale
March 2015 to February 2021
As a senior support worker, I have been able to work in a number of the residential homes, in the
residential homes I was a shift leader and supported adults with complex needs and learning disabilities
who require 24/7care. Throughout this role, I ensured all paperwork was completed and ensured person
centred plans where updated while taking the lead om organising residents meetings and providing the
activity plans where completed for the month.
For the last three years of working at stockdales, I was part of the community services (day centre) team,
within this period was a shift leader ensuring the day ran smoothly and all the service users who have
attended received person-centred care and have had all of their needs met. This could be anything from
needing medication, dietary needs to be met, peg feeding or suction. Or needing help with managing
their behaviours and using breakaway techniques while ensuring the client is safe and well.
Within the sessions, the service user attends classes such as music, cookery, yoga, trampolining, quite
often teachers are not able to come in. It is then your responsibility to teach this lesson as well as be the
shift leader. This requires us to be flexible and transferable with our skills.
I was asked to be part of the children’s club, which was being run on a Saturday. I was able to take
on more training to be able to be updated with the current legislation with childcare and to be able to
work effectively. This has been an exciting project and led in us doing domiciliary care for children in
the evening too.
This role has also required me to take a different set of service users out at the weekend who only attend
one day a week to go on trips. This has also been an experience which has enabled to be successful
within my role.
