Hour
One or two part-time personal assistants are sought to support an autistic woman with physical disabilities. The client is part of the LGBTQ community and an ethnic minority. This role is funded by the direct payments scheme via Manchester City Council. The client experiences fatigue, mobility difficulties, chronic pain, anxiety, communication challenges and is prone to overwhelm and burnout. She requires flexible support.
• Friendly, reliable, supportive, and open-minded.
• Awareness of or lived experience of autism, ADHD, and mental health conditions.
• Comfortable around cats.
• Aged 18 or over.
• Open to candidates with limited experience who are willing to learn, listen to, and accommodate the client’s needs. This role may be suitable for students.
• Willing to complete an enhanced DBS check.
• Meal preparation and cooking of vegetarian food.
• General cleaning and laundry, including changing bedding, taking out bins and cat litter boxes. This includes the safe disposal of continence products such as catheters. PPE will be provided.
• Personal care support, including washing hair and prompting with showering (female PA preferred).
• Wellbeing prompts including for nutrition intake, medication compliance and physiotherapy exercises.
• Administration tasks, including phone calls and sending emails, particularly relating to medical care.
• Support at medical appointments and social activities, e.g. the gym, including communication support and helping with emotional regulation in overwhelming environments (primarily Wednesday daytime).
• Infrequent manual assistance, such as pushing or lifting a manual wheelchair.
• Full UK driving license preferred to support travel to appointments. The client has a Motability car, and the PA may be able to be insured on this. Alternatively, an own vehicle may be used with business insurance.
